I’ve been a member of 4 unions, the first one was a company run union and I wasn’t there long enough to see if they did anything good beside having picnics. Then I was member of the Carpenters union and they went on strike every 3 yrs and you never earned the money back you lost from the strike. When you were out no UI and the union rep still received his salary, nice for him bad for us. Then a member of the Aero Space union it went broke that’s how bad the thieves were. The company I worked for at this time asked if we would stay union free and they would make sure the jobs stayed in Calif. I was able to convince my fellow co-worker to bring in the Union that Harry Bridges built the Longshoremen & Warehousemen. This was the best deal because when the contract was up you kept workings while the union rep. and a couple of co-workers worked on the new contract. They have a no strike policy and if you go on strike the union rep doesn’t get paid. I also convinced my co-workers to ask for less money and better medical benefits because even in 1978 the hand writing was on the wall. They did finally move out of Calif. 20yrs later and the land the plant was on still sets empty today as it’s on the Super Fund toxic cleanup list.

Union were a good thing when the first started, then they became part of the problem and now most have turned the corner and are working for their members once again. I’ve found over the yrs union trained trades people are way ahead of anyone else.

Yes I'm Pro Union and try to buy that way. I mostly use small business but when I need go to something bigger then it's a union store.

Back to harvesting potatoes.
