The Nut Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree

…and Ted Cruz is definitely nuts.

Rafael Cruz, Father Of Ted Cruz, Wants “Great Transfer Of Wealth” Into Hands Of Evangelicals Like Himself

The father of right wing Texas Senator Ted Cruz, the most visible leader of the now-ended government shutdown, is seen in recently uncovered videos calling for America to be ruled by “kings” who will take money from anyone who is not an evangelical Christian and deliver it into the hands of fundamentalist preachers and their acolytes.

Megachurch preacher Larry Huch suggested that Rafael Cruz’s own son, Ted, is one of those “kings.” And in fact, at a ceremony this past July Ted Cruz was “anointed” by a group of fundamentalist preachers in a special blessing ceremony.

::snip::

The difference is that in Cruz’s scheme, the transfer will occur through a war against “the wicked” led by Christian preachers who will take the wealth from nonbelievers.

Grab some popcorn, and compare and contrast to:

GOP civil war! Poll shows Tea Party disdains religious right

Remember when Evangelicals were the staple of the Republican coalition? Turn them out and you could win any national election. Well, they are fast becoming the fringe of the GOP, based on recently released research from focus groups conducted by Stan Greenberg, James Carville and Erica Seifert for Democracy Corps.

The GOP is now roughly split into three factions: one-third Evangelical, one-quarter Tea Party and one-quarter moderates. These focus groups, which were purposely assembled homogeneously to encourage participation, were chosen because they comprise the base of the Republican Party.

Now, no one who knows me, or has read anything that I’ve written, is going to think I’d be dismayed if the fundie-nutbag brigade, the bug-fuck nuts teabaggers, AND the GOP went away.

I mean, I honestly believe that opposing points of view in government is a good thing. Just not when one of those points of view either;

A) believes it’s representing God and if you disagree you shouldn’t be compromised with, or;

B) believes it’s “right”, and therefore “compromise” is a dirty word.

But in these two seemingly conflicted stories, one sentence stands out: “Turn them out and you could win any national election.”

With the GOP its all about power. They simply refuse to accept that their ideas are unpopular and they lose elections.

Clinton was impeached over a blowjob. Obama’s been opposed in EVERYTHING he’s tried to do, in the form of more filibusters than ever before in history, and 42 fucking votes to abolish or defund Obamacare.

The GOP are wrong about everything, but I don’t understand why anyone would want to replace them with petulant children (teabaggers) who hold their breath when they don’t get their way.

We will continue to have a 2-party system.

How’s about we find a way to make that second party center-left of the Democrats, for a change?

Anyone here use BOINC?

If so, you’ll probably be interested in knowing that the Large Hadron Collider is beginning a third BOINC project:

The public can’t sign up yet, but probably will be able to soon enough.

No idea if this one will require a virtual machine like their Test4Theory project does.  (Hope not.  BOINC should always be run as a service in order to preserve security.)

Let’s just say it

The Republicans are the problem.

That’s the title of an OpEd on the American Enterprise Institute website.

If you don’t remember AEI, they’re the “parent company” of PNAC, the place where Dick “Dick” Cheney went to make war-mongering speeches.

An excerpt:

We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.

The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.

When one party moves this far from the mainstream, it makes it nearly impossible for the political system to deal constructively with the country’s challenges.

“Both sides do it” or “There is plenty of blame to go around” are the traditional refuges for an American news media intent on proving its lack of bias, while political scientists prefer generality and neutrality when discussing partisan polarization. Many self-styled bipartisan groups, in their search for common ground, propose solutions that move both sides to the center, a strategy that is simply untenable when one side is so far out of reach.

The GOP has allowed a rump minority of teabaggers to ruin their reputation.

I, for one, couldn’t be happier. The GOP should be equated with a rabid dog, from now on.

Thanks, Teabaggers. Now you’ve managed to piss off China.

Commentary: U.S. fiscal failure warrants a de-Americanized world

Such alarming days when the destinies of others are in the hands of a hypocritical nation have to be terminated, and a new world order should be put in place, according to which all nations, big or small, poor or rich, can have their key interests respected and protected on an equal footing.

To that end, several corner stones should be laid to underpin a de-Americanized world.

::snip::

Of course, the purpose of promoting these changes is not to completely toss the United States aside, which is also impossible. Rather, it is to encourage Washington to play a much more constructive role in addressing global affairs.

I can’t say that China leading the rest of the world in ending American interference in foreign countries, not to mention the abominable meme of “American Exceptionalism” is a bad thing.

But you can bet that I’m going to point out to the supporters of the teabaggers, who would take EXTREME offense at any mention that we’re not God’s chosen country, simply the bestest ever, if we could only go back to doing things the way we did in the 50’s, when we had colored only drinking fountains and wives stayed home in heels and an apron, cleaning for the sole breadwinner, that it was the teabaggers who caused the decline and fall of America.

Just to piss them off.
