Bill Maher explains why Teabaggers are a cult:

In a recent poll almost ninety percent of Tea Baggers said that they thought taxes had either gone up or stayed the same under Obama. Only two percent thought they went down. But the reality is taxes have gone down for ninety five percent of working families taxes went down.

Think about that. Only two percent of the people in a “movement” about taxes named after a tax revolt have the slightest idea what’s going on…with taxes.

Hey. They concluded Democrats in office mean their taxes are going up a long time ago. That’s their story and they’re sticking to it.

I wonder if any of the “Bush tax cuts — yay” folks who aren’t exactly wealthy ever did the math and figured out where they stood. The net effect of Bush’s tax cuts coupled with spending cuts was that I lost a couple of hundred dollars per year because as soon as he cut — states and cities added on stuff to offset his decreases. And that was BEFORE he started two wars and energy prices rose sky high — which in turn caused everything else to start going up — except incomes — which continued to go down.

I don’t think I’m seeing the catastrophe the minimum wage increase was supposed to cause — either. Anybody seeing fast food places and such going out of business or prices rising? I saw more people adding “value menus” — more items you could buy for $0.99 — and in this general area — several new restaurants. Maybe McDonald’s employees took their increased earnings and went to Chick Fil-A and vice versa or something. We have several new places — and they’re still breaking ground on more. I haven’t seen any higher minimum wage ran me out of business or cost me my job stories.

I just got this in an email:

Friday, speaking at an ultra-conservative conference, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty attacked the Recovery Act and said “we can’t spend more than we have” — even though he couldn’t balance his state budget without dipping into Recovery Act funds.

One side manipulates false data, so does the other. Kabuki.

Besides the Kabuki dance, what do both sides share? Economically “liberal” polices such as tax cuts.

Good cop/bad cop. Worst possible outcome for “either” party? Political apathy. And guess what? It’s also the best possible outcome.

I’m not sure what is worse – rw cogdis or centrist cogdis. In either case, “both” parties are working for the common weal of corps and against progressive ideals.

Primrose League – always a win-win for the powers-that-be. Sheesh.

At this point, the absolute monarchists of the Illustration have a better alternative than our “bi-party system”. IOW, it seems that a propietary autocracy is better than a manipulative, oligarchic, Orwellian and self-interested oligarchy.

If there’s a political class, social classes are mere tools.

This comment is not relevant to this thread.

“Centrists” don’t hold rallies and invite speakers. They don’t do much of anything beyond telling pollsters how “angry” they are. If they’re asked.

Au contraire. They’re into “change we can believe in”.

No, they’re into “I voted, now I want to see results. TODAY Goddammit! Other than that, don’t bother me until the next election.”
