I was checking out the “Add New Post” screen to see if I can figure out why Lloyd’s having problems. I noticed a gray box in the upper right hand corner; “screen options”. If you open that in the “add new post” screen you’ll see an option for 1 or 2 columns. I switched it to “1″ to see what happens. Apparently, the “column” with “dashboard” at the top isn’t actually a “column”, it’s a sidebar, because when it’s set to “1″ I see 2 “columns”.
Anyhoo, the “publish” button was moved from the right side column to 2/3 of the way down the page below the window I’m typing this into.
Next, I toggled back and forth between “1″ and “2″ columns several times, but the “publish” button never returned to the RH side of this window. The “center” column just goes from filling the whole screen to leaving room for a column but now column reappearing. The “publish” button on my screen is now stuck well below this text window.
I’m assuming this is a glitch in the new software. I’ll see if WordPress has a “bug report” about this, but I have no clue how to fix this, myself. For now, I just want to let you know I’m seeing this strange behavior, too.
Edit/Update: I just checked it in google chrome and changing browsers doesn’t make this problem go away.

Wow. Now this is effed up…
In the “Add New Post” screen, I toggled back to “2″ columns again and tried something else. The second column is actually there, it’s just not populated. I can drag things from the center column to the RH column. Mouse over the gray bar, for example the one that says “publish”, hold down your left mouse button, drag the bar to the RH column, then release your left mouse button. “Publish” is now in the RH column.
I guess it’s nice that you can customize what you see, but it seems like a pain in the ass, to me. I don’t see anything (yet) that looks like a “restore 2 column defaults” button.

Actually, I moved things around a bit and I kind of like the way I arranged them better than the default arrangement. In the RH column I have GD Star Rating at the top, then Publish, then Tags, then some other crap.
So, Lloyd, you may not be crazy after all. ;->
Anyhoo, if you’re having trouble finding the “publish” button, this may be why. Toggle the screen options between 1 and 2 columns, leave it on 2, then drag what you want to the second column. At least, it worked for me. Let me know if you need help, have more problems.
