A Question

It seems that the board geniuses have once again reassembled, tonight (although Atman is sorely missing). I suspect more than one of you will check back, if for no other reason than to see if your post/comment generated a response.

So, here’s the thing. I’ve heard multiple things referred to by the right wing extremists with the overly large megaphone as “an attack on our (American) way of life”.

Let me just cut to it. At a time when massive protests are going on around the country, starting (and possibly ending?) in Zuccotti Park, is there any chance that we could sneak the message that “our (American) way of life has gone steadily downhill for the past 30 or 40 years until it sort of sucks” into the national dialogue?

I don’t mean “on blogs”. I mean “water cooler talk”, “casual conversation”, even “national awareness”?

Posting on a blog ain’t gonna do it. Tweeting ain’t gonna do it.

How do we get Americans to talk about how much America has failed (for them) since just before the Presidency of Saint Ronnie (who couldn’t win a primary election with today’s GOP base)?

While I am probably not one of the geniuses you refer to…

What can people do outside of the US?

I participate in the 15M movement, which has a headquarters about 250 yards from my front door. Going there is preaching to the converted.

Frankly, I think that blogging/chatting/message boarding is the answer, unless one has access to more people. You’ll run across the cogdis types, but even that isn’t necessarily bad.

I can remember highschool (incredibly, considering the number of years that have passed). My “intellectual nemesis” was a god-fearing, young repub type. For a whole year I attacked, made arguments, used his own values against him – and not long afterwards I learned that I had helped to create an agnostic iconoclast.

We only have access to those with whom we are in contact. If we can’t or won’t publish in a greater environment, we have to concentrate on those who are within our sphere – as the early xtians did.

Even the mainstream press has noted that such falsely vilified schemes such as Obama’s job bill are popular with the majority. OK – it IS a neolib sellout, but it DOES push the right rhetorical (framing) buttons. There’s a crack in which we can push a lever – as long as we don’t concentrate on circlejerks.

Might we not spend a week in an opposing atmosphere? Just to test the waters? Just to create some cracks in the adamantine shell? Better to convert one of the opposites’ faithful to half-way convince one of the undecided idiots.

LOL , be my guest. Might I suggest you start on one of the various threads on Yahoo? If you can last more than an hour trying to talk reasonably to those lobotomized stool samples without losing your shit, and any illusions that you can reason with them, you have infinitely more patience than I do.

You’d think that I’d be preaching to the converted over here, but in lots of cases, they’ve gotten 95% of their education from Thai TV.

I know that message boards like Free Republic and Red State ban you as soon as they figure out you’re a “libruhl”.

I just saw on the idiot box (so no link) that worldwide OWS rallies are planned for this weekend.

I’m confused by this. Is Thai TV as biased and inept as American TV?

In my opinion, it’s a little worse than American TV, because it’s a poor copy of shit.

    XLNT education system.

I see young parents using the TV as a baby sitter all the time, here.
