Glass Part II

Well it all started a long time ago or about 1984, I bought a neon plant and had no idea how to use it. A close friend was back in school to get a MFA in glass and found this place. We had no idea what to expect

The above was founded by these people and if you ever have a chance to go to one of his shows do so or if in Seattle go to the First Center. Better yet to Dales Studio.

I took the neon class and learned the basics; sorry can’t find any imfo on the instructor.
My friend John took a glass from this couple and they spoke no English but in art you really don’t need a laugange.

Watching the glass blowing, especially Lino Tagliapietra, was fascinating.

If I tried that I’d end up with a misshapen blob of glass on the floor and 3rd degree burns.

    I do have a question.

    What’s “a neon plant”?

This the best I can do, the neon plant is everything used in the making neon. The word plant makes it sound like a factory but it just the tools used to make it. There were large places with 50 to 100 people making signs for the beer industry and other most are gone now.

My nephew blows glass. We get a pieces of it for Christmas.

Have you also worked with stained glass?

Did you ever have a transformer in your house? I knew a fella who did.
He did neon art in this area. It was so fun to see his work. He had Chrones disease, seemed to be so surgically crucified and resurrected, despite the fact that he was Jewish. He laughed when I told him this.

Never have done stained glass, I’ve never been interested in it.

Transformer, I have some here but when I did this work I had a 800sq studio in an alley way in town with the equipt in the photo. The transfomer I had for this work weighed 200lbs and 15kva you could do some really cool Tesla things.
