Are u really saying that anything NOT from the democrat party line is GOP in nature?

        Come on. Get real!

I am voting for Ron Paul. I may vote for Romney if I get a wild hair.

Obama already got my vote once. It will not happen again!
SECRECY IS THE HALLMARK OF TYRANNY. Heinlein

One more thing: The Bullies for Obama come out about this time. It happened on the other board, where free speech and even free thought was frowned upon.

I remember Bush making much the same EXCUSES during his reelection campaign. This is a say-anything-do-the-opposite politics. You know why that is? Our votes no longer really count.

I have never made it a secret that I am FOR:
Limited Government (forced health insurance is outrageous intrusion into our priovate lives!! and I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT!), especially the federal government.
Government Accountability and Transparency (the Govt. darkness ever worsening with Obama)
A strong separation of state and church
        Fiscal Responsibility
        Constitutional Restraint
And now Term limits for local, state and federal legislators.

        I don’t donate to politicians.
I donate to the KC SpacePirates who are attempting to make a space elevator.
I donated hugely to ProCanDo, an abortion rights advocacy, is now Trust Women.
I donate to my friend fighting breast cancer, and refuse to donate to cancer orgs and industries.
I donate to the kid next door who wants to go to the Prom.
I donate to the Bill of Rights supporters in this town, who successfully diminished the Patriot Act reach at the local level.

It is foolish to donate to politicians. They use the money so incredibly unwisely.

          Nope.

I’m saying those were GOP/Fox “News” talking points. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I can sort of understand someone saying they’re going to vote for Ron Paul, like I could sort of understand someone voting for Nader. The message, whether you agree with it or not, is “I’m so fed up with the two party system / the two parties that I don’t care who wins.”

But I absolutely can’t understand why anyone would vote for Metch-a-Sketch. The only reason the GOP is rallying behind him is A) they can’t stand Obama, and B) all they really need from a POTUS is someone to sign whatever heinous legislation they can pass, someone who will use a veto to block any and all progress for the poor and middle-class, and someone who will nominate RW extremists like Alito to the SCOTUS.

But an independent voting for rMoney? You gotta ‘splain that one to me, Lucy.

It is strange. I don’t even watch TV anymore, don’t read the political issues of anything that is not on this board anymore. I am a decided voter. Obama has totally proven that politician stances on any given subject are NOT honest and whole-hearted. They are merely political noise. In short, they are lies, intentional lies to get people to believe that they are for something they are really not for.

And I would NEVER watch Fox news.
So I suggest you. TIm, check that ailment you got there of hardening of the categories and take another look at things as they are. Obama lied time and time again. He promised and didn’t fulfill. He is not worth another vote.

My political ideals are always being written in one place or another. I am sure you have seen them before. I find I am the only one who really lists them here.

To get my vote again, he would have had to denounce the Patriot Act. He didn’t. He reinstated it.

It is not terrorism I am so terrified of. The loss of UN Constitutional Rights scares the poopoo out of me. And Obama diminished them further, added to what Bush and the US Congress did. I simply cannot trust him. No one should.

Romney is just more of the same. I agree. More of Obama-like repressing and intrusions.

          I want Paul.

I don’t want him, but even if I did, I’d look at the consequences of my voting for him, knowing that he can’t win.

Since you hinted that you might even vote for rMoney, I’m glad you’re voting for Paul.

PS – As far as “Obama lied time and time again” goes, I’d say “Obama was thwarted from keeping campaign promises by a GOP determined to undermine him”, but he also kept a hell of a lot of them, and the reasons he didn’t keep some of the biggest ones (like Gitmo) are well known. He tried. Congress wouldn’t let him. He’s the POTUS, not a dicatator.

Yeah, I’ll have to agree that only “Gas prices are 200% above what they were” is a pure GOP talking point, in current use. It’s proven pure bunk, BTW.

I’m not sure if “By CPI, a dollar is worth about 73 cents” is a RW talking point, or not. I could hear Ron Paul saying it. It certainly fits the GOP narrative that Obama destroyed the economy (even though the truth is that it was Bush and the GOP controlled congress who damned near destroyed it.)

GitMo is still open” and “NDAA expanded limitless detentions to YOU” aren’t even near misses when they’re aimed at Obama, so I didn’t really count those in the context of “if you’re still supporting Obama”.

“There is more military conflicts during his years, not less”, “The USA government is less accountable than ever before”, and “Wall Street has more privacy than ever before” seem to be complete fabrications, so I didn’t count those.

I have no idea what “You are still eating GMOs in your morning muffins” and “Those GMOs are still unlabeled!!!” has to do with Obama, so I didn’t count those.

“No banker has been prosecuted by Holder” *might* be a legitimate beef. I’d have to hear more about who should be prosecuted, what evidence is there against them, that kind of stuff, and I’d want to know why it’s preferable that Holder do it, instead of the states Attorney’s Generals, so I didn’t really count that.

“Big Pharma is more control of your lives than ever” and “50+ of the Democratic friends are registered as ‘No Party Affliiation’” just plain puzzle me because A) like I said, no one’s forcing me to take any drugs so the point seems moot, and B) what some people in Kansas do regarding voter registration doesn’t make any sort of argument, at all.

So, given the absolute truth that the GOP will repeat anything ad nauseum if they think it will hurt Obama, I knee-jerked that they were GOP talking points. My bad.

    For the record;

“NDAA expanded limitless detentions to YOU”

For a POTUS to refuse to sign a National Defense Appropriations Act would be not only unprecedented, but massively destructive to the economy and the people who depend on the millions of jobs currently provided by the MIC. Dismantling the MIC is not going to happen overnight, unless an EXTREMELY reckless POTUS takes office, and the pain it would inflict on ordinary working people is almost unimaginable. Think 50% unemployment, for starters. Obama signed it with the following statement; “I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation.” So, the statement is untrue as long as Obama is POTUS, but may be true under his successor in 2012 or 2016.

Congress passed it into law. Where’s your righteous ire towards congress? Where’s the concern that rMoney, the only other possible next POTUS, might actually put it into action? Where’s the drive to improve Congress, get rid of the people who passed this affront to America?

“There is more military conflicts during his years, not less.”

Not addressable. Unsupported by the facts currently in evidence.

“The USA government is less accountable than ever before.”

Not addressable. Unsupported by the facts currently in evidence.

“You are still eating GMOs in your morning muffins.
    Those GMOs are still unlabeled!!!”

Basic High School Civics lesson; congress passes laws to label muffins, not the POTUS. See “Righteous Concern” in addressing NDAA, above.

“Wall Street has more privacy than ever before.”

Dodd-Frank isn’t perfect, but legislation rarely is. Obama had to use a recess appointment to get the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau into his office, due to the destructiveness of the GOP. This statement is unsupported by the facts.

“No banker has been prosecuted by Holder.”

I’m gonna give you this one. I don’t think Obama (or Holder) are perfect. But it seems fair to ask what you think the only other candidate with ANY CHANCE AT ALL to win the WH, Willard E. Sketch, would do to prosecute bankers.

“Big Pharma is more control of your lives than ever.”

Not addressable. Unsupported by the facts currently in evidence. No one is making me take drugs.

“By CPI, a dollar is worth about 73 cents.”

Indecipherable without a frame of reference. Compared to 1800, the dollar is worth about 3 cents. Is that “good”, or “bad”? If your answer is “bad”, I’ll send you my address. You can send your iPad, smart phone, refrigerator, indoor plumbing [...] to me.

“Gas prices are 200% above what they were.”

The NDAA was just political theater, allowing politicians who wanted to cast a pro-war vote an opportunity to do so, and allowing politicians who wanted to cast an anti-war vote the same opportunity to do so.

    Likely a good thing.

Gas prices are 200% above what they were.

That is because worldwide demand for gasoline has increased beyond available supplies, so a lot of US-refined gasoline is sold overseas instead of going to the US market.

Less supply to the US market means higher prices.

Not Obama’s fault. That’s just the marketplace in action.

If that Canadian oil pipeline across the US gets built, it might slack the foreign demand and result in more US gasoline staying in the US.

EDIT: Then again, it might not. I can picture OPEC cutting their output to counter the new pipeline and keep prices high if it is built.

Here’s a ranking of Presidents during my lifetime, best to worst. I won’t count Kennedy, because I was too young to understand when he was POTUS. I considered leaving LBJ off for the same reason.

    Obama
    Carter
    Clinton
Johnson (could go ahead of Clinton, I was pretty young when he was POTUS)
    Nixon
    Ford (tie with HW)
George HW Bush (tie with Ford)

The last two are so far from “best”, and “worst” doesn’t approach how heinous they were, but…

    Reagan (tie with W)
    W (tie with Reagan)

If Willard E. Sketch is elected I’ll rank him behind Reagan and W. As you can see from my rankings, IMO the GOP POTUSs get worse over time.

I’d be interested in how other people rank them, as long as everyone understands this is my opinion, and it will be your opinion, so it can’t really be rebutted. Argued about, maybe, but I’m not likely to make any major changes. Go back further than I did, or not as far.

No, but I hope he won’t.

You know, HOPE, the thing that I once had for Obama but lost, lost, lost.

I have the app for Huff Post

    Quoting:

    “I am a Freedom addict”

I’ll do my best to not make this personal. I’m not attacking you. I’m not mocking you. But I’m doing my level best to destroy the argument as being anything remotely “American”, or “constitutional”.

These days, when I hear the word “freedom”, including when I hear it from Dr. Paul, I interpret it as “I want to do whatever selfish thing I want to do, and I DARE you to stop me.”

“I see this “I want the ‘freedom’ to discriminate against blacks, gays, liberals…”, as indistinguishable from “because the constitution gives me the “freedom” to” be an asshole.

I’m convinced that conservatives hate the 14th amendment; that we’re ALL equal under the law. Conservatives want “special” status. Just like “the framers” claimed for themselves.

The original constitution was a compromise that allowed slavery. The now “holy” “Framers” agreed to allow slavery, because without that compromise they knew they couldn’t cobble together a coalition that would pass the Constitution.

You can’t yell “fire!” in a crowded theater.

Cops (legally, I’m not arguing that they don’t do it) can’t arrest you for filming them, or for refusing to answer questions.

    You can’t own a slave.

You can’t shoot liberals on sight.

You don’t have “FREEDOM”, much less the right to define that word, nor should you.

Do you want the “freedom” to shoot bloggers who disagree with you? How about the “freedom” to shoot niggers who’d dare to marry a white woman?

    There are limits to “freedom”.

It’s a great word. Let’s be honest, though, about what you’re asking for.

You want the “freedom” to live above the law. You’re claiming it as a right of citizenship.

    I disagree.

You may be pissed off about someone stealing your water rights, for example. I support your “pissed offedness”, to coin a phrase.

    But, it’s entirely constitutional.

At some point in life you have to decide. “Do I want to live within, or outside of, society?”

I can’t answer that for you.

I can tell you that I choose to live within society. Great change only happens by “revolution”, which ain’t gonna happen, or by working from within to create that change.

    Here’s the rub:

I don’t disagree with anyone’s right to complain about our current government.

I disagree that advocating for sure loser ideas will help advance the liberal cause.

Mitch E. Sketch will win KS and MS.
Obama will win CA and DE.

I don’t understand why we’re arguing about this.

I’d like to see a more liberal congress sending legislation to whichever POTUS the American people in their wisdom (/snark off if that’s EVER been true) send to represent us.

Romneybot, who will win if the “Obama sucks” crowd gets their way, will sign the most heinous legislation a GOP house would send him. Obama will veto (some of) it. Metch E. Sketch will appoint RW judges who will undo everything you seem to value.

But in the end, arguing about this is a waste of time.

Either Obama or the current POTUS, RW passing legislation, RW SCOTUS judge nominating, Romney will win the POTUS.

I want to argue about congress.

The two parties are NOT the same. There are no “liberals’ in the GOP. There are no “moderates” in the GOP.

The Democrats are a “big tent”. The GOP only allows John Birchers.
