Michael Ware

I can probably list the journalists who I believe when they speak (or write) on one hand. Maybe two hands. Not hands and toes.

Michael Ware is one of the few, perhaps the first I’d name, who’s not a shill for the corps and the war machine (is there a difference, when there’s profit to be made?).

This is intense.

I’ve never experienced war. It’s hard to imagine a time when my job “was” “kill people”. I can’t relate to being a warrior. I can relate to their pain when they return home.

Some snippets of Mr. Ware’s thoughts.

I should be dead. I wish I was.

::snip::

Maybe it wasn’t death I wanted so much as it was oblivion.

I know one day my now-young son will read this, hopefully when he himself is a man. I pray not sooner. It’s for him, and only for him, that I resisted. Once I realized even a deadbeat father, should I become one, is still better than the specter of a dead dad, especially at his own hand.

But so it goes. We just have to suck it up. [...] I’m here to tell you none of us has any choice. Because living is there to be done and it’s we who must do it.

Rejoice in the end of the Iraq war. Be joyful when the war in Afghanistan ends. But don’t forget that those who served were, in their own way, serving you.

I thought Obama was going to shut down that invasion? Why are we still there? We have been told OBL is dead (for nearly a decade, if you ask me). Of course, it could be one of his doubles they found, since he had quite a few of them.

Why has this war NOT ended, Obama?
heard a quote today from VN police action: something like “We had to bomb the whole village to protect the village.” Hmmmm!

“I thought Obama was going to shut down that invasion?”

Obama voted against the war in Iraq, so I have to assume you mean the war in Afghanistan.

Agree or not (I disagree), we’re still there because we want to “leave with honor”. I initially supported the war in Afghanistan, but don’t any more. Mostly because it’s where empires go to die.“We have been told OBL is dead (for nearly a decade, if you ask me).”

I don’t like CT (conspiracy theories). I believe that OBL was killed a little over a year ago in the raid on his compound near the center of Pakistani military operations. I think there’s a whole lot more to be learned from that proximity that there is to learn from any “OBL is a popsicle” theory. Why do we still treat the Pakistani’s as an “ally”, for example.

“Why has this war NOT ended, Obama?”

Why did the American people vote for someone who didn’t promise to end it?

Honestly, uni, you worry too much about the POTUS election.

    The House controls the agenda.

Do you want the baggers in charge of the agenda, or the relatively sane Democrats?

Sorry, but I’m going to GOTV for Obama in VA, even though my official residence is in DE. I’m going to support the Dem in every election I think I can influence.

Republicans hate me and the poor and the middle class.

I have no choice but to stand for my people.

Which is bigotry, in its own way.

    I’m OK with it.

    Fuck the rich.

BTW, Your vote in KS? Meaningless. My vote in DE? Meaningless.

    But my activism in Va?

I may actually make a difference!
