[I edited to embed one video, and to say there are more at the link. Hope that's OK. If not, let me know and I'll delete. TB3]

I’ve listened to the video I added to your post several times, and I really like it.
I was going to add something about a comparison between steel drums and harmonicas, that they come in keys, the point being it’s literally impossible to play a wrong note. I thought about adding “notice when the drone bass note is hit” by pointing out that it’s the center of the steel drum, but I wondered if anyone would understand what a “drone note” is. (It’s sort of a “reference note”. Since most people don’t have perfect pitch, the constantly repeated “bass” note in this music gives a constant reference that everything’s “in tune”, even if it’s not.)
Then I was going to add something about how music theory has different keys setting different moods.
And end my comments with admiration that playing within a single key makes it difficult to “put on a show”, based on the difficulty of writing every song in the same (mood) key.
Then I decided “fuck it, I’m just going to enjoy this music”.
I enjoyed this post. A lot.
Thanks.
I hope your friend is able to support himself.
Being a musician is a tough job.

I don’t mind the edit and 99 is a herself. She not a musician of sound but of words and thought but does find some very cool stuff in the utube world.
I’m happy that you enjoyed this.

Being a guitar player I really appreciate the novelty of this style of playing. I’ve posted it before, but I still think it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed someone doing with a musical instrument. It’s done in an “open tuning” which is tuning the guitar to a chord, which is sort of a cross between a perfectly tuned guitar and a steel drum…

I like this I’ll have to look around for some more. I saw this person when he was first starting out with only 20 people, what a great show.

I was lucky enough to have a room mate in college who was into jazz. I was probably one of a handful of people in (R-voting) South Dakota, in the 80′s, to even know who Stanley Jordan was.
Glenn listed to lots of stuff I never heard anywhere else. Gentle Giant, Weather Report, Jean-Luc Ponty I can remember, but there were others who were very good.
I saw a bass player from a jazz band, but I can’t remember his name. I don’t think it was Jordan. Who was the bass player for Weather Report?
At any rate, after he played a solo he was standing there with broken BASS strings, he was thumping on that thing so hard. And, A) bass strings are THICK, and B) he never missed a note.

Yes, I went through that at the first of the year and because I have a local build the computer/server it takes me 3 days to reload everything. In the end worth it but what a pain.

Oh man, I have over 7400 songs. Finally got the purchases downloaded to the new iTunes.
Over 10000 photos. Little by little it comes together but I cannot find how to recognize the external harddrive on the new machine. The new machine has a new OS I am not familiar with.At least the new Wyoming photo are on the new machine and not on the old one, .. 800 photos in all, a wedding and a extended-family vacation with the siblings and their families.
And I vowed I will not visit this particular site with the new machine until after July 17th, due to flame issues.
