Glenn Beck’s Spellig Leson

This is really pretty funny until you realize some people are absolutely devoted to every word this moron spews.

“The one that’s missing … is Y.”

Up next, 12 full minutes of absolute, undiluted, top shelf crazy.

I don’t watch Stewart as much as I used to, but I actually caught that one.

BTW, I think all of us are burned out by politics. I wonder if, after being absolutely steam rolled and ignored by Bush and crew, we’re all just disgusted that we aren’t doing the same to “them”, now? We need 60 votes in the Senate to do *anything*??? Gimme a break.

Amen Brother! That is why I have been posting a lot of non-political content here lately. I still stay informed as much as I always did but I don’t remark on every disappointment or outrage like I used to.

And before anyone suggests it (lurkers who low-rate posts but won’t comment, I am looking at you) it is not because a Dem is sitting in the white house. Obama has shown himself to be the consummate politician: able to piss off his opponents and disappoint his supporters with equal aplomb.

I have an alternate theory. “The fire still burns, but there are no wheels available to spin.” Not to mix a metaphor or anything…

I’m waiting. What will happen with health care? Will we continue to pull out of Iraq as promised? What about Gitmo and the torture investigation? There’s a lot that’s unknown.

And, like so many, my level of disgust is rising. I’m not one to watch funerals on teevee, but I caught bits of Kennedy’s wake and funeral. I even wrote Orrin Hatch, later. The email said “thanks”. That’s pretty much all it said. There was a common theme in many of the speeches, both “right” and “left”; Kennedy “was a product of an age when the joy and nobility of politics prevented differences of party and philosophy from becoming barriers to cooperation and mutual respect — a time when adversaries still saw each other as patriots.” I like to think it won’t take much more for me to give up, but I already know I’m lying.

So, a musical interlude while I think about it. I feel an essay coming on…

if someone else showed you the way
would you take the wheel and steer?
it hurts me that you’re not ashamed
          of what you’re doing here
if they jumped off a bridge
would you meet them on the ground?
or would you try and claim
that it never made a sound

          [chorus]

everyone plays the hand they’re dealt
and learns to walk through life themselves
not everything in life is handed on a plate
when people think your words are true
it doesn’t matter what you do
i sold my soul to get here
          how ’bout you?

so you choose to force your hand
what a strange way to make friends
and you always change the rules
          so the drama never ends
and you blindly go through life
          judging only by its worth
          just try not to forget
          that the meek inherit earth

          [chorus]

          so please don’t take offense
this is just a point of view
cuz i’m the only one who
will say these things to you

          [chorus]

…and, if nothing else, no one can accuse Beck of being unimaginative…

More than burned out, I’m angered out on politics. And yes, I am certainly disgusted that we want to cross the aisle and embrace those who refuse to embrace us.

I don’t see the logic in it, no matter how it’s painted. And I’m tired of the pundits speculating about what Obama’s trying to do… I wish he’d be “open” as he promised.

Anyhow, funny how an ideologue/thug like Beck changes his thinking once the shoe is on the other foot. In this case cognitive dissonance wasn’t a factor.

On another note, I’ve been reading up on memetic engineering (and similar ideas). With these sorts of concepts, is democracy really a viable alternative?

It can deal with the apathy of more than 50% of the population. It can even deal with a badly-informed electorate. But how can it deal with a misinformed, misguided and manipulated electorate?

My top priority is curtailing corporate power, regardless if they support one or the other party. It is the root of all evils in our body politic, driving economic and foreign policies, playing the hotbutton issues…

I had to approve your “worrying stuff” comment. At first I thought you had made a second ID. That doesn’t seem to be the case, so now I don’t know. Have you ever posted 2 links in a comment, before? The spam filter kicks in when someone posts too many links, but it’s never happened before and I don’t think 2 is the threshold.

At any rate, if this happens to anyone else it’s not me fucking with you, it’s the software. I don’t censor or edit (although there are 3 people who are “ban on sight” because they have absolutely nothing to add).

Well, they’re both links from the same site, just different pages. I don’t know if I’ve posted 2 before – and I didn’t notice anything different when I posted the links.

It doesn’t really matter. I just want people to know I’m not doing anything to block their opinions. If there’s a problem, it’s a software problem and I’ll fix it (when I have time).

I suppose, alvy, you might be especially tempted to think I’m censoring you. ;->

(That was a joke. Jesus. Sit back down! … another joke. ;-> )

I saw a link to the interview, but it was 3 videos amounting to 30 minutes and I won’t have time to watch it. Feel free to condense it for me/”us”.

It’s not “lack of interest”. I’ve decided to leave my current position, so there’s a lot going on in my life, right now. Deciding to sell my house in this market isn’t exactly a “light” decision, so you have to know things are pretty bad…
