Real "All American Heros"
In today's business environment, when there are so many stories
coming to light about corporate malfeasance in regard to bookkeeping practices,
environmental irresponsibility, price gouging, greed and buying political
favors, when one finds corporations doing something right and good they should
be recognized and commended.
When an employee who is a reservist is called up for military service, a company
is required by law to hold that position open and available. That's their only
obligation. Most of the time, the difference between military pay and their
civilian salary creates a financial hardship for these citizen-soldiers and
their families.
Sears, recognized that and, in the old-fashioned tradition of a company whose
employees are their family, is voluntarily making up the difference in salary
and maintaining all benefits, including bonus programs for all of their called
up reservist employees for two years.
Sears is one example of what all corporations can and should be. They offer good
quality merchandise at fair prices and not only appreciate the efforts of their
employees, but reward it with more than lip service. Some companies put people
before profits and just knowing that makes me feel good.
Bill Thom, of Sears Customer Care, summed up his company's attitude. "Sears
regards service to our country as one of the greatest sacrifices our young men
and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear
at this time."
Whether or not you support the war, I know as Americans we all support our
troops and their willingness to put their lives on hold while they answer their
country's call to duty. We should all support Sears as well as the other
employers who earn an "All-American Hero" label. The next time you have to make
a purchase, make it at Sears or one of the other companies that show their
support for our country through their support of our troops and be sure to let
them know why you're there. If you're not planning any purchases in the
immediate future, let them know you appreciate their contribution to our
military by sending an e-mail.
Some of the other companies who, like Sears, show their appreciation of those
who are willing to put their life on the line for us can be found here. Check
out the list of the "good guys" before you go shopping so we can recognize them
for their exemplary contribution to America. These are not only corporations
with a heart, they're corporations with a heart that's wrapped in the American
flag.
